Together, One Book at a Time
We help children become friends with books by making reading engaging and exciting through age-appropriate storytelling and our proven reading strategies!
Training the Teachers
We actively collaborate with teaching and literacy experts in Kosovo and Sweden to build a strong professional network where educators can exchange knowledge, share experiences, and further develop best teaching practices together.
Our nine years of work and collaboration have resulted in a practical training program that helps teachers confidently lead Reading Hours and support students in developing reading comprehension. In our 1–2-day training sessions, Kosovo teachers are introduced to concrete reading strategies and our contextualized Teacher’s Guide, developed specifically for classroom use by The Library Project Kosova.
The training combines clear explanations of the strategies with hands-on exercises, discussions, and classroom simulations. By the end of the program, teachers leave with both the practical tools and the confidence to immediately apply these methods in their own classrooms.
Reading Hours
Reading Hours are weekly classroom sessions in which students read the same book aloud together, actively guided by the teacher using reading comprehension strategies. Rather than being an individual task, reading becomes a shared experience where students listen, discuss, build understanding, and develop empathy together.
Teachers use our structured strategies and contextualized lesson plans to support students before, during, and after reading. Through questions, dialogue, and reflection, students learn to make sense of the text, think critically, and express their thoughts effectively.
The long-term goal of Reading Hours is for these sessions to become a natural part of the school routine and curriculum, providing a consistent and systematic approach to strengthening students’ reading comprehension over time.
Childrens’ Books
We provide elementary public schools in Kosovo with age-appropriate books designed to inspire curiosity, spark imagination, and nurture children’s sense of wonder—while also helping them improve their reading comprehension through our proven reading strategies. The books are selected by our academic board based on criteria such as reading age, maturity level, cultural relevance, and the importance of the topics. These are children’s fiction books full of feelings and stories that keep young readers engaged and motivated to continue their comprehension journey.
For many years, we have built strong relationships with children’s book publishers in Kosovo and other countries to secure translation and publishing rights. This allows international children’s books—previously unavailable—to be made accessible in Albanian, giving Albanian-speaking children around the world the opportunity to enjoy these stories.
Libraries & Reading Spaces
We identify unused spaces that can be transformed into libraries or reading corners for children, giving new purpose to community spaces—for example, we turned an unused area inside the primary school in Grabanica, Klina, into an actively used school library.
Our projects are carried out in collaboration with children and community members, ensuring that children’s perspectives are central. At the same time, we promote democratic values, non-discrimination, and give children a sense of responsibility and ownership over their learning spaces.
We see this as an opportunity to provide children with the space they deserve to develop their imagination and foster a love of reading, while also revitalizing abandoned spaces in an environmentally friendly way.
